Brassed Off by Paul Allen and Mark Herman – Now available for amateur licensing!

Adapted from the 1996 film of the same name, this brassy ensemble play is filled with heartbreak and humour as it tells the story of one of the last coal towns left standing, the fictional pit town of Grimley. The Grimley Colliery is set to close when the accountants say there’s more money in it shut than open, but its closure would mean 1,200 recently unemployed people, a dying town and the loss of its brass band. Under the leadership of Danny, coughing with coal-dusted lungs, the band is somehow transformed into British champions with local lass Gloria whipping up the money needed to get them to the Albert Hall in this celebratory and defiant show about the spirit of community.

Emma by Andrew Davies, adapted from Jane Austen – Now available for amateur licensing!

Following his celebrated adaptation of Pride and Prejudice comes Andrew Davies’ Emma, the snappy and witty adaptation of the 1996 BBC movie. When a match for her new best friend Harriet fails, will the adept matchmaker be able to recover, especially in the face of her disapproving father? And how might her misjudgements affect her own romantic prospects?
