Sam Shepard’s TRUE WEST Revival Announced with Ethan Hawke and Paul Dano

Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play True West will be back on Broadway later this year, starring Tony and Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke and Golden Globe nominee Paul Dano. The revial will be directed by James Macdonald and play a limited engagement in the American Airlines Theatre beginning December 27.

True West will officially open January 24, 2019. Further casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.

In True West, two brothers—one, a moderately successful screenwriter (Dano), the other, a drifter (Hawke)—reunite to discuss their mother’s recently abandoned house, leading to the airing of old resentments and some unexpected twists in the relationship.

The play debuted on Broadway in 2000 with stars John C. Reilly and Philip Seymour Hoffman swapping roles nightly. The production received four Tony Award nominations: nods to both alternating stars, director Matthew Warchus, and Best Play. For more information on the play, or to purchase a copy, click here.
